It’s not always easy to find out if a perfume is original or not. At first glimpse, an original and a fake perfume may look the same but they are not.
The following are the guides to help you understand the cons of the perfume industry;
1. Funny Perfume Packaging
The original perfumes use boxes made with top quality materials, and the boxes must be well reinforced and protected inside so that the bottle does not break or suffer any kind of damage if you notice that the box is fragile or is made with poor quality cardboard and low weight then you have a fake perfume in front of you.
2. Unauthorized Dealers
Online shopping sites are now considered as the best platforms to sell perfumes in this digital era. When purchasing a perfume first check the credibility of the vendors before buying. There are many shops that are selling counterfeit perfume products that are not fit for purpose and can even cause health problems. There are perfumes which are sold is some retail shops whereby they have the refillable options when your perfume is finished. Such products don’t bear the relevant standardization mark.
3. Fake Perfumes Scents Don’t Last
If you want to know if a perfume is original, keep in mind that if it doesn’t last long, it is a fake perfume and it is also important to know that big perfume brands use pale colors as the final result of the liquid you can see from the perfume in most bottles. Quality perfumes such as bleu de Chanel which is a notable brand easily passes as a genuine brand by its appearance.
4. Online Scammers
If a site is not an authorized seller of the product that they are advertising, they are part of a grey market that purchases products from abroad and outside of the manufacturer’s regular distribution channels.
Even though a grey market product is not a counterfeit per se, there is no way of knowing whether or not a perfume has been exposed to dangerous temperatures or interfered with in some way. Most of us would choose to purchase a perfume of lesser quality just to save some shillings.
When you buy perfume online, it definitely feels safe buying from online stores. There is always the option of purchasing directly from the manufacturer, however, it can be expensive.
5. Not Identifying Yourself With The Scent
I was once a victim of a fake perfume scam. While waiting for a friend along the streets of Nairobi a stranger approached me selling perfume at first I didn’t bother and I tried brushing him off, then he took out a Gucci perfume for men where he caught my attention. The price was good and I was excited at least I will brag having a Gucci perfume. The problem was I didn’t know its scent. When I reached home, I showed it to my sister who upon testing told me it was a fake product packaged using a Gucci bottle.
Summary
The moral lesson is that you must identify yourself with a product first before buying since it will save you big time, also buy products from trusted shops.
